Calix President Returns Home to Brooks AB

Brooks – Michael Weening is currently the President and COO of Calix, a NY Stock Exchange company with a market cap that has been as high as $6B, and revenue approaching $1B annually. But before that, Michael was just a teenager living in Brooks, AB excited about graduating from Brooks Composite High School. He hasn’t been back in Brooks since his 20-year highschool reunion but will be making a special trip to talk about BrooksNET, meet with stakeholders, and speak with students.

Calix, which is based in Silicon Valley, will be providing leading edge, essential hardware and software to BrooksNET, making operations efficient and streamlined. When he discovered that his company would be supplying integral components for BrooksNET, Weening knew he had to reach out and talk about his past in Brooks, and the future that Brooks is building for themselves. “We have to be involved with Brooks,” said Weening, “When I think about what Calix is doing across North America, you are exactly what our company aspires to do, which is help small communities completely transform.” After working with communities of all sizes across the United States, Michael is confident that BrooksNET will create a unique opportunity to change the way the economy works, bring new residents and businesses to Brooks, and have a multi-generational impact.

While in Brooks, Michael will be meeting with the Mayor and CAO of the City of Brooks, plus representatives from BrooksNET co-owner Community Network Partners Inc. Thanks to a high school friendship with the now Superintendent of Grasslands Public Schools, Michael will also have an opportunity to meet with the graduating class at his very own high school, Brooks Composite High School. There will also be an event held for BrooksNET stakeholders and Economic Development organizations to talk about BrooksNET and opportunities for the future.
